DAMNIT, EARTH.

crabcakes:

On a day like today, a day meant to call attention to the harmful consequences of bullying, I have seen more anonymous hatred on my dashboard than I have in weeks. So many people are sharing their stories and beliefs about tolerance and acceptance, only to turn around and get a message calling them a derogatory name or a message saying “Kill yourself.”

Actually, what I really want to know is what you guys who send such hate to people you’ve never even met get out of it. Does it make you happy to see people upset? Does it make you happy that you drive some people away from this website because of your ignorance and hatred?

I have no doubt that some, if not all, of you anonymous bullies are also bullies in real life. What do you get out of harassing someone so much that they feel like they have no other recourse but suicide? What do you possibly get out of that?

Tumblr is a community made up of people from all over the world who come here to share their interests and their passions with other like-minded people. They don’t come here to be harassed for who they are.

People can choose to not have anonymous questions enabled. But you know what? Having the anonymous function turned on is not an open invitation for hate and ignorance.

To the haters of the purple:

Go hate on another colour. Purple is beautiful, and what it symbolizes tomorrow is something we should be aware of. It’s not singling out one community. It’s not saying that gay suicides are the only ones we should be aware of. WE SHOULD BE AWARE OF ALL SUICIDES, WHATEVER THE REASON. But, how about we just focus on one thing at a time. And tomorrow is about suicides in the gay community. The point is that we start talking about it, and become aware that this is happening, and that we as a generation, as a community can do something about it.

We might not even be aware of who we are affecting with our words, every single day. You might think it’s a “joke”, but being homosexual, bi, pansexual, or even heterosexual is not a choice, and it is not something to be ashamed of. I include heterosexuality because “coming out” shouldn’t be stigmatized. Since when did we decide that heterosexuality is “normal”? By deciding that it is normal, is excluding a multitude of people. The worst part of this is that these suicides do happen, and they could have all been prevented. No one should ever feel ashamed about their sexuality, or themselves or WHATEVER reason. If suicides are happening because an individual is bullied, demeaned or abandoned, it is everyone’s responsibility to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

So before I see more shit on my dash about people bitching that there was no pink for breast cancer, or any other colour for that matter. Let’s just stop thinking about what today isn’t, and what it is. Stop wasting time and make sure that the world of tomorrow isn’t the world we see today. We need a better world to grow old in. Not a cynical, crude, and unwelcoming world.

And remember:
